Our standards

We try to:

use the most precise locality, neighbourhood, borough, growth area and venue name available;
distinguish Old Town, the town centre, Railway Village, West Swindon, East Swindon, North Swindon, Highworth, Wroughton and the surrounding villages;
distinguish Swindon Borough Council from Wiltshire Council and neighbouring authorities;
identify the exact geography of Swindon station, the GWR works, STEAM, the Designer Outlet, Great Western Hospital, business parks and M4 junctions;
distinguish ordinary-day travel from event, commuter, retail, roadworks and development conditions;
check live information against official or first-party sources;
identify opinion, sponsored content, affiliate content and advertising clearly;
avoid unsupported rankings, stereotypes and claims about communities;
use first-hand experience only where it genuinely happened;
correct material errors promptly;
treat businesses, residents and contributors fairly.

We do not turn Wiltshire, the Cotswolds or the Thames Valley into Swindon-only facts. We do not describe Bath, Bristol, Reading, Oxford, Marlborough, Cirencester or Chippenham venues as Swindon venues by default. We do not flatten the railway town, Old Town, growth areas and surrounding villages into one generic local area.

Commercial independence

Payment, free entry, hospitality, affiliate commission or a commercial relationship must not guarantee a positive editorial outcome. Sponsored or commissioned content will be labelled. Advertisers do not receive control over independent editorial decisions, subject to factual review of claims about their own business.

Time-sensitive information

Event dates, prices, opening hours, rail and bus services, M4 and A419 traffic, parking, hospital services, football fixtures, venue arrangements, planning status and New Eastern Villages delivery timelines may change. We include an update date where useful and encourage readers to confirm important details directly.
